MARS: Call For The Knights.

Before listening to Call For The Knights by MARS I was sure to look at the Psychedelic art work that accompanies the band. With the kaleidoscope of shapes and colours the band have managed to link their art work with their music. Taking you on a 3 minute mind-expanding journey.

Taking inspiration from Nick Cave and The Growlers the guys got together with a mission in mind. A mission to take their fans on an adventure.

Call For The Knights isn’t your typical first release. The band have taken time to find their sound. Throwing ideas around until they had set the perfect mood for the song. With lyrics that manage to transport you to a fantasy world and guitar rifts that remind you why you loved music in the first place.

The song has been self produced by one of the members, Ryan Sainsbury. Not only is Sainsbury providing the haunting sound of the guitar but has worked to produce a tight sounding tune.

Listening to the music its hard to ignore the emotion in the Matthew Gibbs’ voice. The singer has taken aspects of his life and managed to transfer his life journeys into the song. This is really what the band boils down to. Taking these life lessons and being able to convert them into this almost hallucinogenic music.

The video that will be dropped soon after the single continues the feel of the band. Incorporating twisted illustrations and what seems to be a look into the bands mind.  Its great to be able to link the art work, the video and the sound of the band so well. MARS manage to allow the listener to connect all the dots and see this as a whole package.

MARS worked with artist Callum Bishop to create the fascinating art work that goes alongside the sound. One of the reasons I felt I wanted to look at the artwork first was to see how the band would link the pieces to themselves and to the song. If the artwork is anything to go by then MARS have managed to produce a single that’s not only a bit of a trip but also a brilliant tease. This is just the tip of the iceberg and I am sure the rest of it is going to sink a few ships.
